About Kitesurfing in Tenerife
El Médano is the main spot for Kitesurfing in Tenerife. It is located at 15 minutes from the Tenerife Sur airport, in the South East of the island. Other spots along the West coast are also available for advanced riders, but it is recommended to ask locals about them.
Kitesurfing schools in El Médano offer courses for complete beginners, and all the way to advanced lessons. But given the wavy nature of the spot, we can say that it is not the easiest spot for beginners.
The wind is pretty strong in El Médano, and varies between 15 and 35 knots or above. So smaller sizes are recommended, between 5m and 11m generally, also depending on your board.
The winter seasons bring weaker and less constant wind, so can be better for beginners. Summers are more constantly strong, which bring bigger waves that make it difficult to learn, but more fun for advanced riders. Spring and Fall can be a good combination of both.
El Médano offers constant winds throughout the year. Even in the winter the temperatures are mild and the wind will surely offer at least a few kiting days per week. Definitely a great spot for advanced riders who like strong wind and some small waves to play with.
